Karim grew up in British Columbia before moving to Kingston, Ontario to study law at Queen’s University where he received his law degree in 2001. Upon being admitted to the Bar in 2002, Karim practiced general civil litigation and joined Zuber & Company LLP in 2007.
Karim is a seasoned partner and his practice focuses primarily on complex litigation and trial (judge alone and judge and jury) and appellate work. Karim is often retained as trial counsel, and he is particularly sought after for his ability to hone in on issues early and exercise sound judgment, resulting in cost-effective and efficient litigation so as to bring a matter to conclusion by way of settlement or trial – whichever is in the best interests of the client. His areas of practice focus generally on civil litigation and, specifically, on all areas of insurance defence and coverage. This includes issues and matters related to Commercial General Liability, professional negligence, motor vehicle accidents, personal injury, environmental claims, product liability, occupiers’ liability, breach of contact, construction claims, subrogation and Directors and Officers. He appears regularly before the Superior Court of Justice and, often, at the Court of Appeal of Ontario. Karim has also prepared materials for Leave to the Supreme Court of Canada.
Karim believes in giving back to the community. He was nominated by unanimous vote to serve on the Board of Directors of the South East Toronto Family Health Team and, in this capacity, he is a member of the Core Strategy Planning Committee and Governance Committee. Karim is also Chair of the Intervenor Sub-Group of the Canadian Defence Lawyers Public Policy Secretariat (“PPS”) and a member on the Continuing Legal Education Committee of the CDL. Karim speaks regularly at many legal programs put on by the Canadian Defence Lawyers, Ontario Bar Association and Law Society of Ontario on issues related to Practice Management, Best Practices and Trial Advocacy. He is the proud co-author of an article published in a prominent legal publication.
Anyone who really knows Karim, knows full well that he loves what he does and puts it all in the context of a balanced life. He still listens to old-school rap while exercising, is an avid soccer (football) fan which developed from his many years of playing the sport, still watches old-school basketball on his VHS tapes and enjoys a pick-up game when possible and, with difficulty, tries to hit golf balls straight!
