B. Rafeena Bacchus

Rafeena received a Bachelor of Arts in Administrative and Commercial Studies in 1999 and, in 2000, a Diploma Honours Standing in Sociology with Distinction from the University of Western Ontario. She studied Law at Dalhousie University and graduated with her LL.B in 2003. Her experience includes clerking for the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Prince Edward Island. In addition to being called to the Ontario bar in 2004, she was called to the Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia bar in 2004. Notably, Rafeena was recognized by the Law Society of Prince Edward Island, as being the first woman of colour called to its bar.

Rafeena joined Zuber & Company LLP in September 2004 and her practice focuses primarily on insurance defence litigation including property damage, product liability, occupiers’ liability, subrogation, contractors/subcontractor’s liability and various coverage issues. Her expertise also includes personal injury claims including motor vehicle tort and accident benefits for which she represents both defence and plaintiffs.

In 2010 Rafeena served as the Director of a Human Rights and Social Justice NGO in Cameroon. Her work included organizing workshops training Magistrates, counsel, and local chiefs on Mediation and Arbitration as alternative dispute resolution; workshops on the governance of NGOs at the US Embassy; Public Interest Litigation; Human Rights clubs for students; and running a Prisoner’s Rights Programme.
