Layah Nelson

Overview

Layah graduated from Carleton University with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours), majoring in Criminal Justice with a dual concentration in Sociology, where she was recognized on the Dean’s List for academic excellence. She later earned her Honours Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from The City Law School in London, United Kingdom, where she was enrolled in the Graduate LL.B program. During her studies, she was awarded the Certificate of Academic Achievement for Canadian Law and Business Organizations, an award presented to the student achieving the highest overall grade for the 2025/2026 academic year. While residing at Goodenough College in London, she was also the recipient of the Canadian Women’s Scholarship Award for Studies in Law and Medicine and the Scholarship Award for Studies in Law. She is currently completing her Master of Laws (LL.M) at the Henry N. R. Jackman Faculty of Law at the University of Toronto.

 

During her time at law school, Layah served as Class Representative of the Canadian and American Law Society and gained hands-on experience as a Student Legal Intern with the Innocence Project. Through her program, she developed a deep passion for medical law, contracts, and business law. Prior to her legal career, she served as a General Manager, developing strong leadership, composure under pressure, and interpersonal skills that continue to shape her approach as a law student.

 

Outside of her academic and professional pursuits, Layah is an avid traveler who has explored over 40 countries, embracing new cultures and experiences. She also enjoys hiking, photography, weightlifting, reading, and writing. She is fluent in both English and French.
